Open to
Everyone, including students and adults.

Deadline:
Tuesday, March 31, 2009. 4:15 pm if turned in to the Ingersoll Municipal Offices; 8:15 p.m.
if turned in to the Ingersoll Public Library.

Contest Rules:
  • Each entry is to be an article, written in journalistic style, describing one person who is somehow connected to Ingersoll or the immediate area.
  • A maximum of three entries per person
  • Each article to be between 300 and 1,000 words
  • Typed or word-processed entries only
  • No electronic submissions
  • Entries to be judged by their writing style and content, not for the accomplishments or sentimental value of their subject
  • Stories and their attached entry and permission forms must be delivered to either the Ingersoll Public Library or the Ingersoll Municipal Office, both at 130 Oxford Street, Ingersoll, N5C 2V5 by the deadline date and time
  • All forms must be fully completed, signed, and attached to entries.
  • Permission to print winning articles must be obtained from subject for articles to win. These forms can be found at the links below

Prizes:
  • Publication in the Ingersoll Times with a by-line

Journalistic Style requires
  • Third person narrative
  • The first paragraph to answer the 5 W’s: who, what, where, when, why
  • Objective writing- the writer’s opinion is not directly stated.
  • Quotations from identified sources- including the subject- that express opinion.
