Ingersoll Cheese & Agricultural Museum Information - Est. 1977


The Ingersoll Cheese & Agricultural Museum has (2) new and exciting Outreach Programs available to local and area teachers! The programs have been designed in accordance with the Ontario School Curriculum and include visual components and first person interpretation. History is brought to life through the use of artifacts, costumes, and reproductions from the museum’s education collection along with activities and team building projects.


Outreach Program Information

Outreach programs are available: Monday to Friday - 9:00am to 3:00pm
* Program length can be adjusted to accommodate your needs. *

Cost:
Schools within Ingersoll:         $20.00 fee (for materials)
Schools outside of Ingersoll:   $45.00 fee ( for staff time, mileage, materials )

Class Size:
Each outreach program accommodates a minimum of (10) and a maximum of (30) students. We encourage teachers to arrange for three adult chaperones to assist with the hands-on programming stations.


“Curds & Whey” – Our Dairying Heritage ( Outreach Program )


Grades: 3 - 4

Availability: October - June

About the Program:

Have you ever wondered how cheese was made over a century ago or why Oxford County was famous for its “Mammoth”…cheese that is? Students can rediscover the tools and techniques used by the area’s first cheddar cheese makers, follow the journey of milk from farm to fridge then and now and uncover how Oxford County became the dairying capital of Canada.

This is a fun and interactive 1 ½ hour educational outreach program that is comprised of visual components and first person interpretation. History is brought to life through the use of artifacts, costumes and reproductions from the museum’s education collection along with activities and team building projects.

“A Day in the Life of a Pioneer Child” ( Outreach Program )


Grades: 1 - 3

Availability: October - June

About the Program:

What was life like over 150 years ago? Follow in the footsteps of a pioneer child and discover what a typical day was like in the backwoods of Oxford County. Explore the important role they played in the household and investigate the tools and gadgets of the time used for daily chores, textile making, play time and entertainment.

This is a fun and interactive 1 ½ hour educational outreach program that is comprised of visual components and first person interpretation. History is brought to life through the use of artifacts, costumes and reproductions from the museum’s education collection along with activities and team building projects.

Educational Programs

The Ingersoll Cheese & Agricultural Museum is dedicated to providing fun and educational programs for local and area students, youth groups and organizations. Programs are curriculum specific and can be modified to meet your educational programming needs. Children will have an opportunity to partake in a variety of hands-on learning sessions that will teach them about early pioneer life and experiences. Programs typically run for 1 ½ hours and include (3) rotating ½ hour sessions. Educators may choose from a variety of programming sessions such as: blacksmithing, spinning & weaving, cheese making, butter-making, bread making, pioneer toys and pastimes, daily chores, and planting and harvesting. Full-day programs can be arranged for larger groups.

Programs are offered May through September. Out-reach programming is also available upon request. Please contact museum Curator for more details!
